Three notable innovations are changing the mechanics of the ordinary bicycle. In fact, these new technologies may be the most significant developments in the engineering of bikes since the very emergence of the modern bicycle (which replaced one that had a wheel much larger than the other) in the late 19th century. Given the penetration of electronics in every aspect of our lives, the emergence of an electronic exchange is no surprise. It works like this: instead of using a mechanical lever to change gears, a button sends a signal to the diverter and activates a small motor that provides a change gears quickly and reliably. A servo adjusts the positions of front and shimano rear drag spinning reels derailleurs are aligned so that the best way possible, producing greater efficiency in energy transfer. The electronic exchange can come in wired version, where the gear shift signal is transmitted by wire or wireless, using different frequencies. The disadvantages are minimal. The most obvious is that if your battery dies, you're more or less screwed. But Shimano estimates that 7. 4 volt battery in your line Dura-Ace Di2 Currency Exchange lasts more than 1000km per charge. The other downside is the price. The Di2 system costs $ 2,500, and must still take about two years for this technology becomes more accessible. Still, some are already using Exchange cilcistas electronics today: George Hincapie raced on a Trek Madone with electronic exchange in the 2009 Tour de France, Trek and now provides support for battery and cable routing tables on their race Madone. The Campagnolo kit launch its electronic exchange in 2011. The traditional chain we call the belt is one of the weaknesses of any bike. A large force applied over a segment of chain that produces a wear segment. Over time, the threads break, and when that happens, you become evil. The failure is anticipated by the accumulated dirt and debris because of the much needed lubrication. The constant changing of gears is also a great wear. In comes the treadmill, which increases the efficiency of the gears of the bicycle while it improves its durability. At its core, is a simple technology, not much different from a conveyor belt. A unique piece of rubber or plastic moves around two sprockets. In addition to increasing energy efficiency, the belt need not be lubricated, has no moving parts. For the same reason, it is unlikely to break. But then, we're close to seeing these bikes in our belts? Close enough for the trek have already built a prototype of the image above. The only real downside, besides the availability still very low, is that the bike must have a specially prepared table to a conveyor system, since it is not possible to remove and place. The biggest leap in bicycle design comes from a workshop on research and development in San Diego called Fallbrook Technologies. Its innovation is the NuVinci transmission, a two-wheeled version of a TCVs (Continuously Variable Transmission) that already have a higher efficiency in hybrid cars. In a traditional bike, you need to switch gears within a limited set of, say, 10 or 18 gears. With a NuVinci transmission, you get an infinite range of gear ratios - within a specific range, of course - to seamlessly combine their energies with the slope of the terrain. The TCVs use balls that rotate and lean positioned between the input and output components of a system of gears. This arrangement gradually varies the transmission speed, linear speed of providing options and essentially infinite. Compared to a flat system of gears, you also gain in efficiency, since there is no energy loss during an exchange. It is possible to buy a bike equipped with the NuVinci TCV. But I'll wait. I want all three technologies working together in the same skinny. Then yes. . .
